The Places I've Been and the Places I Want to Go
University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island
Since I can remember, technology and travel have been intertwined. When I think about the globe and how I can communicate with others, I find our planet to seem a lot tinnier than it is. This shouldn't be surprising, as I am constantly exchanging texts through WhatsApp to my au pair from 2005 in Germany. Here, we can exchange updates about our lives, as well as help one another learn each other's native language. With mediums like these and more, I can follow anyone from anywhere on basically any social media site, as well as read online articles, blogs and e-books on pretty much anything that crosses my mind.

I never once questioned the mediums needed for online communication and networking until I took this course. In fact, it seems foreign to me that there was once a time when electronic environments did not exist. I have a hard time imagining what my life would be like without electronics and the internet, because I feel as though many parts of my life have been heavily impacted by technology in both positive and negative ways. As a result, when I first saw WRT 235 - Writing for Electronic Environments - in my available course list, I found it intriguing and instantly decided I wanted to take it.

Prior to this course, I have always been someone to enjoy the layout and design of paper and online mediums, similar to the ones we created throughout WRT 235, but I did not realize what made these mediums effective and "aesthetically pleasing". By the completion of this course, I was not only able to apply my eye for design, but I was also able to integrate the concepts that we learned about each day in class. For the future, I can establish what makes my work successful with actual theories, rules, and vocabulary terms. I hope with this knowledge, I can find my success in both online environments and world travel.
