Project One
Clubhouse Blog
San Diego, California
The Clubhouse Blog was the first project we were to complete throughout the entirety of this course. I found this project to be the most difficult for me to grasp, because I had a difficult time trying to target my specific audience. Perhaps most importantly though, I learned the concept of "less is more". I had heard of this concept long before WRT 235, but I never actually focused on its meaning and how important this concept really can be - especially for me. This blog took more work than I had originally expected, as I was constantly adding and then erasing the extra bells and whistles to my project in hopes to enhance my work, but rather ended up making more confusing and less appealing to view.

Reading back on my post-write, I realized that I spent the majority of my time trying to find a design that would resonate with everyone who came across this my blog, when in reality, I should have realized sooner that my blog theme should be unique in order to attract more of a specific target audience. I have found through clubhouse blogs - and especially this project - that it is impossible to attract every single person who comes across your blog. In fact, the goal of the blog is not to attract every person that reads it, but rather, attract and continue attracting the same people to visit your blog because of the unique personality your blog contains that can not be replaced by another.

Once I realized this concept, I began to write more freely and expressively, including more of my personal experiences and advice to my target audience and dedicated readers. I realized that I was so worried about what the readers wanted, that I did not pay much attention to holding a strong online personality because I was afraid I would not be everyone's "cup of tea". At this point in the course, I have realized that that my writing style is not for everyone, and it doesn't necessarily need to be when it comes to writing clubhouse blogs.
Beginning with this project, I was unaware about how much of my writing was to be strictly facts and how much of my blog was to be personal opinions. Now, I find that this idea is less of a strict guideline, but rather varies depending on who you are as a writer, what the purpose of you blog is, and the type of audience you are trying to attract. I believe that my writing has changed significantly from the beginning of my clubhouse blog to its end. Perhaps most importantly, I know I have become more confident in my individualistic writing and I feel more willing to be open and expressive in my writing.
