The History of the Naval Academy

Updated: May 5, 2019
The US Naval Academy Museum is perfect for anyone who is interested in the history of the sea, as well as the history of the United States sailors and marines. The museum is know to attract over 100,000 people annually from around the world. As an added bonus, the museum is completely free for admission, although it is important to note that people over the age of 21 years must present a valid picture ID upon entrance. The museum is open everyday of the year except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

The museum is located on the Naval Base in Downtown Annapolis in Preble Hall. The museum consists of two floors and contains both audio and visual technology combined with the historical artifacts to provide a more real-life experience.
For me, the museum is a great place to learn about what the Naval Academy has to offer. I have a personal connection to the Naval Academy, as my grandfather was in the service and my family supports a current Naval Academy student since he lives too far away to visit home. I personally think that learning about the history of the Naval Academy is important, especially to those that live near the area, or are connected to the Academy in some way. Regardless of one's reason for interest in visiting this museum, this experience is intriguing and rewarding.
